This year Engadine High School received 5 Gel Electrophoresis kits as prizes for being the highest fundraising school in Australia. This week year 12 Biology students used these kits to investigate one of the technologies used during DNA sequencing and profiling. The students enjoyed using micropipettes to load samples onto a gel slide,
which then separated the samples in the same way it would separate the DNA bases in a genetics laboratory.
This activity directly relates to the Biology syllabus, where students must investigate the use of technologies to determine inheritance patterns in a population.
