Sport Stories

Engadine High School

This term has been an amazing term for school and representative sport. We have had many individuals achieve great success as well as numerous teams compete in our school knockout competitions.

Below is a snapshot of some of the awesome achievements that EHS have experienced on the field, court and in the pool!

Our annual EHS Swimming Carnival was held on Thursday 14thFebruary and it was a hugely successful occasion. We had a large group of student competitors, competing in many events throughout the day as well as novelty events.

From this brilliant day we had a large team compete at the Zone Swimming Carnival on Monday 4thMarch. Again, Engadine High School had much success in both individual events and relays. From this event, a strong team was sent to Regional Swimming on Tuesday 19thmarch at Homebush Aquatic Centre. All of our competitors put their best efforts forward and we must congratulate them all on some amazing personal achievements. We also had 20 wonderful senior students attend the carnival as official timekeepers for the day. From all accounts they did an amazing job and we thank them and Ms Scipione and Ms Ratacjak for helping out on the day.

Shannon Lewis will be progressing to the NSWCHSSA Swimming Championships for both the 200m and 400m Freestyle events. Congratulations Shannon on a fantastic achievement and we wish you all the very best at the upcoming Championships!

Team Efforts

Boys Cricket

Our Knockout Boys Cricket team took on South Sydney HS with great success. South Sydney HS batted first and were restricted to just 148 runs off their 40 overs. Lachie McRae and Jed Adams were the stars with the ball, bagging a handful of wickets between them.

In reply, EHS only lost 2 wickets with Hamish Jacka top scoring with 89 n.o. and Tyler Coldwell with 31 runs.
A great effort from the boys and we look forward to taking on Jannali HS in the next round.

U15 Girls Netball

Engadine High School's under 15’s girl’s Netball Team played against Caringbah High School in a knockout match recently.

The girls played a tremendous game, full of engagement, encouragement and fun! Unfortunately they were not victorious but the girls are to be congratulated on a fantastic day of great skills and sportsmanship. For that, they are winners!

Lawn Bowls

It was a lovely day for a roll when EHS sent three students from Year 11 to compete in the Sydney East Lawn Bowls Competition. We congratulate Jayden Leplaw, Beau Bassett and Brayden Kennedy on their efforts and for coming a respectable 5th place! The Sydney East Team is yet to be finalised and we send our best wishes to these students in their hopeful selection.

Touch Teams

Congratulations to both our boys ’and girls’ Open Touch teams, who won their respective first round knockout matches. Our girls’ side defeated Cronulla HS 5-4 with a great try to Rachel Tougher on the final play.

Our (very young) Open Boys’ side were always in control against a much older Sydney Secondary College - Blackwattle Bay side, winning 6-5.

In their second round match, the Open Boys Team took on Woolooware but unfortunately, despite putting up a massive fight for victory, Woolooware came away with a 5-3 win. This team should be very proud of themselves because for an Opens team their average age is quite young. The future is bright with these guys in the years to come!

Best of luck to our Open Girls Touch team for their second round match where they will take on the winner of JJ Cahill vs. Kirrawee. Whomever they play I’m sure they will make EHS proud!

Australian Mountain Biking Interschools at Thredbo

EHS had a number of students attend this annual event that is held over four days at Thredbo and consists of numerous events. The competitors were as follows:

Division 1 (Yr 11 & Yr 12) Josh Bieder, Josh Duncan, Joel Parker

Division 2 (Yr 9 & Yr 10)  Lachlan Braz, Cory Parker

Division 3 (Yr 7 & Yr 8)  Joel McGregor, Alex Wendt

The Division 1 team were so successful that they came 3rdplace in the Maxxis Flow Motion Cup. In this particular race there 104 competitors from 38 schools. This is a fantastic achievement and we congratulate these students as well as all that attended and gave it their all at this difficult and often dangerous event.

Individual Achievements

Beau Bassett trialled for and made the Sydney East Baseball Team. That team competed at the NSWCHSSA Championships and became Champions of that tournament. We congratulate Beau on his individual success, as well as the success of the Sydney East team and we wish them luck in their future competitions.

Alannah Merchant and Tamara Brydon both endured two gruelling trials to compete for a place in the Sutherland Zone Open Girls Football Team. They were successful in gaining selection in this team, however, both had to eventually pull out of the competition to trial for the Sydney East team due to injury. We wish both girls a speedy recovery and best wishes for their future sporting endeavours!

Sydney East U15 and Open Touch Football Selections

Congratulations to a talented group of EHS students, who were successful in gaining selection in the Sydney East Touch Football teams for 2019. A strong male contingent made up of Cameron Read, Dane Lynch, Blake Wardrobe, Ryan Wotton and Jack Stewart were selected for the U15 Sydney East Boys Touch Football Team.

Our girls were equally impressive with Chelsea Holmes, Jessica Wardrobe and Rachel Tougher being selected in the Open Girls Touch Football Team, with an extra-ordinary effort by Jessica who was also successful in gaining selection in the U15 Sydney East team. A huge congratulations to these incredible athletes, and those who trialled on the day. We wish them the best of luck in their upcoming NSWCHSSA Championships!

Sydney East Australian Football Trials

Congratulations to Matthew Hull, Tye Gander and Ryan McKinlay who were all successful in gaining selection in the Sydney East U15 Boys Australian Football Team on a very wet and muddy day! We wish them the best of luck in their upcoming Southern Sydney Australian Rules Carnival in May, in the hopes of being selected to represent a Combined Southern Sydney Metropolitan Team.
