Every year Engadine High School is approached by Event & Sports Projects Australia Pty Ltd (ESPA) to volunteer at the Premier’s Gala Concerts.
This year forty two students from Year 10 assisted with the smooth running of these concerts. The Gala Concerts are in their 33rd year and are a thank you to seniors from the NSW Government for the contribution they make to the community. The concerts are funded by the NSW Government and organised by the Department of Family and Community Services NSW.
The students from the Year 10 Child Studies classes and the SRC and SSC participated in a training session at school prior to the concert. On the day of the concert they departed Engadine at 7am for the bus journey to All Phones Arena at Sydney Olympic Park. The role of the students at the concert included placing 6,000 programs on seats for two concerts, welcoming seniors to the concert, providing general directions and information for seniors, directing attendees to their seats, assisting seniors from the bus drop off area to the concert and providing and collecting wheelchairs to and from the concert patrons. This was all done in 35 degree heat!
The students are a credit to our school. They were proactive in engaging in conservation with the many senior citizens from across NSW. They worked tirelessly to make the concert as enjoyable as possible for the attendees. At the end of the concert the students were thanked repeatedly for their efforts by the attendees, the ushers employed by All Phones Arena, ESPA staff and the Northern Beaches TAFE staff and Events Management students who formed the team leaders for the day. The students were complimented on their fine appearance in full school uniform, their manners and enthusiasm. Well done students!
