What an exciting end to Term 1 at Engadine High School. The pace is relentless as students and staff alike embrace every opportunity to challenge themselves academically, physically and on improving the balance of social justice in our world.
Our band and dancers are currently in the US on a tour performing as well as taking workshops and classes from some of the world’s most accomplished performers. Meanwhile our senior Modern Historians and Society & Culture students are in Vietnam experiencing a very diverse culture, learning about our recent history with Vietnam, and visiting schools. I am thrilled that through the sheer hard work of teachers and parents, financial commitment often at the expense of other priorities, we are able to offer our students such unique and memorable experiences.
The recently announced changes to HSC requirements have seen a renewed emphasis on maximising individual results for NAPLAN. Our information evening sought to assure parents and students that we were implementing the most effective strategies to ensure students are able to access Band 9 in Literacy and Numeracy as early as possible. I have included this link to a very balanced article on all the implications of NAPLAN from 2017. http://www.smh.com.au/comment/busting-some-of-the-hsc-literacy-and-numeracy-myths-20170329-gv9832.html
Furthermore, Andrew Fuller’s excellent article provides specific strategies to manage the stress and anxiety around the NAPLAN, or any examination situation. Preparing For NAPLAN follows this report in Current News.
I wish for you all a safe and peaceful break and a chance for students to relax, tidy their bedrooms and help the family!
