On Tuesday 7thMarch, forty students from CAFS, SRC and SSC in Years 9, 10 and 11 volunteered at the 2017 Premier’s Gala Concert. The NSW Senior’s Festival occurs once a year and this year’s event was held at the new International Convention Centre in Darling Harbour.
The concerts are in their 34thyear and are a thank you to NSW seniors for the contribution they make to the community. The theme for this year was “Oh What a Night”. The concert featured artists such as Kate Ceberano, Andrew O’Keefe and Damien Leith along with our own alumni Teagan Denham as a member of the dance ensemble.
Engadine High School students worked tirelessly alongside students from The McDonald College and were placed in teams led by students from Loftus TAFE studying Events Management. Our duties for the day included placing programs on over 6,500 seats for two separate concerts, ushering and assisting the attendees to their seats and to buses for departure at the end of the day. The seniors were greeted with friendly smiles and the students themselves were thankful for the experience. It was wonderful to spend the day with many of our senior citizens and help them out as much as possible. We learnt new skills and had to the opportunity to make new friends.
At the end of the concert Engadine High School was presented an award on behalf of the Premier of NSW, Honourable Gladys Berejiklian to thank us for our efforts in volunteering throughout the day.
Overall the day was a great success and one member of our local community, Mr Mennell, contacted our Principal, Ms Jones, and commended the EHS students for their exceptional behaviour and conduct at the Premier’s Gala Concerts. He also wanted to make mention of their spotless and beautiful uniforms. Well done to all of our volunteers.
