System for Unacceptable Behaviour At EHS

Our Discipline System is based on a restorative approach so that students accept responsibility for their behaviour as well as the consequences if their behaviour causes concern. We believe that all students have the right to learn in a positive environment which is free from the disruption of other students. We have a very clearly defined "levels" system which is communicated to both students and parents each year. In addition, we implement the Department of Education Suspension and Expulsion Procedures as required.

Level 1 (Informal stage)

  • I am behaving inappropriately
  • I need to speak to my class teacher about how I can improve
  • If I need to, I can talk to my Year Adviser

Level 1 (Formal Stage)

  • I am trying but it's not working out in class
  • I need to write what is going on using my Restorative Justice questions.
  • I now need to set personal targets with my teacher
  • My parents will be told I am having problems at school.

Level 2

  • I can't get it right
  • I am behaving inappropriately in class and my school work is not up to date. Each lesson my teacher keeps track of my work on my target sheet.
  • I need to talk to the Head Teacher
  • I need to refer to my Restorative Justice questions to help me get things right.
  • I can get help or advice from my Year Adviser, the School Counsellor or the Welfare Coordinator.
  • I may be issued with an in-school or after-school detention.
  • My parents will be told that I am having problems at school.

Level 3

  • My behaviour is offending students and teachers.
  • It is stopping other students from learning.
  • I will lose my opportunity to represent the school or go on excursions
  • I need to talk to the Deputy Principal / Principal.
  • I need to refer to my Restorative Justice questions to help me get things right.
  • I can get help or advice from my Year Adviser, the School Counsellor or the Welfare Coordinator.
  • My parents will be told that I am having problems at school.
  • I may be issued with an after-school detention
  • I may be suspended from school until my parents can attend an interview with the Principal or Deputy Principal.
  • My possible return to Engadine High School will be discussed.
